What is Network Relay IoT?

Network Relay IoT refers to controlling physical relay outputs through an Ethernet, Wi-Fi or TCP/IP network. Instead of relying only on physical switches or direct USB connections, network-connected relays can be controlled by computers, servers, web applications, automation platforms and IoT software.

NetRelay connects network-based software with real-world electrical control points, providing a flexible platform for IoT and automation projects.

How does network relay control work?

NetRelay connects to a local network through Ethernet or supported wireless connectivity. Authorized applications on the network can then communicate with the device and control relay outputs according to manual commands, schedules or automation rules.

Because communication takes place over the network, the controller does not need to remain physically connected to a computer through USB.

What is the difference between an IoT relay and a traditional relay board?

Traditional relay boards are often controlled through physical inputs, USB or serial connections. An IoT relay adds network connectivity and software integration capabilities.

Key advantages include centralized control, remote management, MQTT support, API integration, automation scenarios and connectivity with smart home or industrial systems.

Can NetRelay work without Internet access?

Yes. NetRelay can operate within a local network without requiring an Internet connection for local relay control.

When the control application and NetRelay are on the same LAN, communication can remain completely local. This is useful for factories, secure installations, industrial networks and private automation systems.

Can relays be controlled with MQTT?

Yes. NetRelay can be integrated into MQTT-based IoT environments. A central MQTT broker can be used to exchange commands between automation software, sensors and relay devices.

For example, a temperature sensor can trigger an automation rule that activates a fan relay when a predefined threshold is exceeded.

Can Network Relay IoT be integrated through an API?

NetRelay is suitable for custom software integration scenarios where physical relay outputs must be controlled from an application.

Developers can build network relay workflows with technologies such as Python, Node.js, PHP, .NET, Delphi and other platforms capable of communicating with supported APIs and network protocols.

Can NetRelay work with Home Assistant?

Yes. MQTT and IoT integration capabilities allow NetRelay to become part of Home Assistant automation scenarios.

Lighting, pumps, fans, doors, barriers and other devices can be controlled through Home Assistant while keeping many automation processes inside the local network.

Remote reboot of network devices

One common Network Relay IoT application is remotely rebooting modems, routers and access points.

If a device stops responding, a relay can temporarily disconnect and restore its power, reducing the need for technicians to physically visit remote installations.

Camera and license plate recognition integration

Network relay systems can connect video analytics software with physical devices.

For example, when an authorized license plate is detected, the software can send a network command to NetRelay and activate a barrier relay.

Similar workflows can be created for people detection, vehicle detection, alarms and security events.

Sensor-based IoT automation

NetRelay can also use digital input signals as part of automation workflows. Dry contacts, buttons, alarm outputs and other digital signals can be monitored by software and used to trigger relay actions.

This makes it possible to build automation scenarios that react to real-world events without requiring a cloud service.

Why are network relays important in Industrial IoT?

Industrial IoT systems often need to turn software decisions into physical actions. Network relay controllers provide this connection between software and field equipment.

A decision generated by a server, AI application, production monitoring system or sensor network can be converted into a physical relay action through NetRelay.

What should you consider when choosing a Network Relay IoT controller?

Important criteria include Ethernet connectivity, local network operation, relay capacity, digital inputs, MQTT support, API integration, web management, Home Assistant compatibility and automation capabilities.

NetRelay as a Network Relay IoT platform

NetRelay provides a flexible bridge between network software and physical devices. It can be used in projects requiring Network Relay, IoT Relay, Ethernet Relay, IP Relay or LAN Relay Controller functionality.

From remote network equipment rebooting and access control to smart buildings and industrial automation, NetRelay can serve as a practical network-connected relay platform.
